Find your binge. Binge your find.

Slate Takes on May Streamers with Style

,

Slate just put out their what’s new in May list, and they group up what’s out in a fun and cool way. Highlights include their Scrumdiddlyumptious Watch on Netflix and their Kung Fu Watch on Amazon. The list is long, but it’s def a fun ride.

Do you Hulu?

,

Because if that’s the voodoo that you do, this list is for you. You! Ahem. Seriously, it’s a good way to check what you’ve seen against what you could be seeing, so dive on in. Thanks, Thrillist!

May the 4th Be… a Marathon!

,

May the 4th Be With You day! Starting today, you can finally binge the dreams. Disney+ has all 9 of the Skywalker Saga films up, as well as the Star Wars Stories flicks. Which means you can do an 11-film marathon in the comforting cocoon of your home. Fill your rebel base with snacks and supplies and get to it, oh yes!

Your Workout is Laughable (or at least it could be…)

,

Ah, the wonderful pairing of home workouts and good ol’ sitcoms. I learned the value of such when I tried to binge Ozark during morning exercises. Too dark to motivate. So I kept the Bateman, hit Arrested Development instead and lost seven pounds. This list from the NYT stretches from Fleabag to Cheers, with all the whats and wheres you need to get your heart pumping.

Beam Me Up, Baby!

,

At least half – if not more – of a great viewing session is an audio experience you can get lost in. And built-in TV speakers are rarely up for the challenge. While there are literally thousands of ways to upgrade your audio – from powered speakers to soundbars to full home stereo integration – we recommend the Sonos Beam as maybe the best quick fix out there.

Why? Let me just tell you fast, like a friend…

Because… 1) the sound quality is great 2) they come in black or white, so they also look good in any room 3) you can expand the system over time by adding a wireless subwoofer first, then wireless side speakers for a 3.1 or full 5.1 surround sound 4) they have Alexa built in, so it can make your TV obey! 5) they’re Airplay 2 compatible, so playing music from an Apple device is a snap 6) they can integrate into a whole house wireless sound set-up, so your casa can rock 7) they’re fairly mid-priced and offer terrific bang for the buck.

There are many, many roads you can take to upgrade the sound of your video. But while most are fairly singular solutions, this road is like… well… a half a dozen roads. And that, my friend, makes it something to consider.

Beastie Boys, Part I

,

If you even have a passing interest, just a mere curiosity, even the slightest tickle of wanting to know what made the Beasties so special, bust on over to catch the trailer for the new Spike Jonze docu right now. And if you already love the band, I hope you clicked away two sentences ago. This is a great, great story folks.

Beastie Boys, Part II

,

There’s a lot of buzz about the Beasties right now, with the Apple TV+ documentary and all. But Consequence of Sound takes us on a tour through 10 of their best videos for a mini-music binge that will really fire you up. So fire it up!

A Ghost World Flashback!

,

The next time you do a Scarlett Johansson Binge (or a Steve Buschemi Binge, or a Thora Birch Binge, or even a Teri Garr Binge), get yourself back to Ghost World. Was so happy to run into this article. And if you’re in SF, btw, go to a record store called Mike’s on Page & Scott on Saturdays. It’s kinda Ghost World-y, too.

Because you watched…

,

I’m one of those who actually likes the Matrix Trilogy, through and through. But until Matrix 4 comes out, it’s fun to feed your man vs. his own creations jones in new ways, and this list from Looper gives you plenty to chew on.

The Complete CNN & Sesame Street Town Hall for Kids

,

It was easy to miss this series that aimed to help children through the quarantine, so it’s nice that CNN has compiled the entire group of vids in one place. Each run roughly 18 minutes are filled with facts and answers to questions from children across the country.

A Streaming Tribute to Sondheim

,

It’s never bad to start your day with a song, or in this case, a songbook. To celebrate Stephen Sondheim’s 90th birthday, performers streamed in together from around the world to bring his music to life. It’s beautiful and fascinating to watch. The intimate streaming style that has evolved over these last couple of months really brings you closer to the music.

A Few (Really) Free Finds

,

This isn’t one of the more exhaustive compilations from NPR, but it sure hits the sweet spot of FREE nicely. Check out a few limited time offers… not trial accounts, but good old-fashioned free stuff. Most interesting? Maybe the History Channel’s new History at Home series or the highly-touted series The Elephant Queen on Apple+. What have you got to lose… it’s free!
